Wicked River

words and music by JW Hanberry

FAWM 2018

Liner Notes:

Originally a skirmish song with the prompt "Winter River" provided by @corinnecurcio.
Since then it got a name change, reworked lyrics and a full band track. I'm liking this version.

Guitars:

'94 Fender Mexi-Telecaster (rhythm)
'86 G&L Rampage (lead)

Amp:

'78 Marshall Mk II
Real Tube II preamp (lead)

Lyrics:

Wicked River
2/11/18

The storm clouds broke
And the rain came down
And the folks were trapped by the water
In the streets of the town

Get in your boats
Load up your pack
Don't care if the god damned rain lets up
We ain't never comin' back

Ch
Wicked river (you're) the devil in disguise
Ragin' hellfire demon water from the skies
Oh wicked river.

We built the levy
Before the winter came
Then watched the wicked river rise
Swollen up with rain

Total devastation
Spreadin' across the land
Ain't lookin' for salvation
We could sure use a helpin' hand

[ch]

Vs (gtr)

We're hurtin' here
Busted up and bruised
This is ten times worse
Than the picture you saw on the news

Imagine watching
Your whole life drift away
Swept clean, a bitter scene
Revelation judgement day.
